The symptoms of flu

The flu is an acute disease caused by viruses belonging to the Orthomixovirus genus. These pathogens target nose, throat and lungs and cause inflammation of the upper respiratory tract and trachea. The flu is transmitted through the droplets of mucus or saliva that spread in the air when sneezing or coughing. When you are sick, to avoid infecting others, it is good to stay at home until 24 hours after the spontaneous disappearance of the fever (one of the flu symptoms), cover your mouth when coughing and sneezing and wash your hands often.

Flu: how it manifests itself

The disease typically begins with the sudden onset of symptoms after 1 or 2 days of incubation. Acute flu symptoms can last up to 7 - 10 days.

Systemic symptoms are usually the first to appear.

  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Muscle pain
  • Chills
  • Malaise
  • Lack of appetite

At the beginning of the illness there may also be some problems in the eyes, that appear wet and red. Muscle pains are widespread.

The fever is usually high in the first few days and then gradually declines, but it can also last up to 8 days. In most people the flu illness is self-limited, which means it heals spontaneously. After healing, some symptoms may remain in the convalescence period which can last up to several weeks. Among these, mostly dry cough and general malaise.

The general symptoms are accompanied by respiratory ones.

  • Dry cough
  • Runny nose
  • Sore throat

The most fragile subjects, such as people with chronic lung diseases or those with heart diseases, pregnant women, the elderly, and very young children, can experience serious complications. For these people the flu vaccination is recommended.

In children between 6 months and 5 years of age with high fever, convulsions may occur. Most of these bouts are rapid and do not cause permanent damage. Some children are more predisposed than others, 1 child out of 3 who had a convulsion could have another in the following 12 months.

To deal with the flu symptoms in the best way you can try Spididol, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), for adults and children over 12 years of age, that can mitigate the symptoms of flu states, especially fever and general pain.
